Daara J

This week’s main focus is on music from and inspired by Africa and the African Diaspora. Starting in Sub-Saharan Africa with some afrobeat vibes before exploring the into some hiphop and rap. In the second hour we inject some technologically enhanced beats from Angola/Barcelona/Morocco before ending up somewhere in Cuba attending a Santeria ritual.

This weeks PARIS DJs Mixes also come from Africa and feature a insane collection of afro-funk and classic vinyl Afro-latin gems from the 70’s.

Gogol Bordello (live)

This week we try and do the opposite of last week with a focus more on guitars and other worldy delights that don’t make use of drum machines or computers. Gypsy punk, Desert blues, Catalonian folk, Algerian rock and Mongolian heavy metal are the order of the day.

PLUS: this marks a new format for the show, in which I will only be programming 2 hours work of music for in the last hour I plan to showcase some of the amazing 30 min podcasts from Paris DJ’s, who are a group of vinyl lovers and recrod crate diggers that have a very large appreciation for music from planet earth. Each week I’ll choose 2 of their themed podcasts for broadcast, which you will be able to download yourself from their amazing collection. This week we start of with 21st century Latin and Balkanese.
